The MRC Mirror Driver is a Video Driver that allows the MRCprogram to retrieve the screen information and updates of theremote machine directly from the Kernel. Without using theMRC Mirror Driver, the MRC program scrapes the screen of the remotemachine by reading the remote Video Card's Memory via Microsoft APIcalls.

Is there a planned update for the mirror driver included with the v12.0.3.0 DameWare Mini Remote Control Service. Not only does it no display correctly in Windows 10 Device Manager, the driver date is over 8 years old. There is also some concern that it is causing issues with displaylink connected d. The MRC Mirror Driver increases the performance of the MRCconnection and decreases the CPU load for the MRC Client AgentService on a remote machine. To use the MRC Mirror Driver foran MRC connection, enable the 'Use MRC Mirror Driver' option in theRemote Connect dialog prior to the MRC connection attempt.

The first time an MRC connection is made to a remote machine, amessage is displayed stating, 'Configuring for first time use. Thismay take up to 2 minutes.' Once completed, subsequent MRCconnections to the same remote machine will occur without thismessage being displayed.

The MRC Mirror Driver, along with the keyboard driver and thesmart card driver, can also be installed prior to establishing anMRC connection by using the MSI Builder. Simply enable tooption to 'Install the mirror driver' prior to building the MSIpackage. For more detailed information and instructionsregarding the DameWare MSI Builder, see the Help Topic entitled,'MRCClient Agent Service Installation Methods' in the AdditionalInformation and Instructions section.

Using the MRC Mirror Driver is not required tosuccessfully establish an MRC connection. The 'Use MRC MirrorDriver' checkbox can be un-selected prior to attempting an MRCconnection to disable its use. It can be removed as wouldother device drivers through the Operating System's Device Managerinterface.

1. The MRC Mirror Driver supports multiple monitorsystems, however, due to a documented flaw in Windows OperatingSystems prior to Vista, negative coordinate monitors are notsupported by the MRC Mirror Driver. Negative coordinatemonitors are secondary monitors that are installed above or to theleft of the primary display. When the MRC program detects aremote monitor that has a negative beginning coordinate it willdrop out of Mirror Driver mode and revert back to standard MRCbehavior.

The remote machine's multiple monitor configurationcan be easily adjusted through the Operating System's DisplayProperties dialog. In order for the Mirror Driver to workproperly, the upper left monitor must be the primary display withall other monitors installed directly below it, or to theright.

2. Desktop wallpaper is not supported by the MRCMirror Driver on multi-monitor sytems prior to Windows Vista, dueto the same flaw mentioned previously. The MRC program willautomatically disable the background image when using the Mirrordriver to connect to a remote machine that has multiple monitorsattached. The background image will be restored ondisconnect.

3. The MRC Mirror Driver is not supported whenconnecting to remote machines with the 'Media Center' portion ofWindows XP Media Center Edition (MCE) running. A connectioncan be made to a remote machine running Windows XP MCE withoutusing the MRC Mirror Driver or with the MRC Mirror Driver when'Media Center' is not running.

4. If an MRC connection is established to a remotemachine that has a Java, OpenGL, or DirectX program running on it,a black, gray, white, or clear portion of the screen may bedisplayed in the place of these applications. Whether or notthe MRC program can display some of these applications depends onhow information from these applications are being displayed on thescreen. Applications that use non-standard methods of drawinginformation on the screen may potentially be displayed through theMRC connection by disabling the use of the MRC Mirror Driver.


HELP FILE

For extra security and privacy, you can blank out your host screen while remotely connected. This will turn the entire screen of the unattended host computer screen black (or green) while you are remotely connected. Note that hardware limitations may prevent screen blanking on some monitors.

System Requirements

  • Windows 7 or later
  • Windows XP Service Pack 3 or later installed
  • Mac OS 10.11 El Capitan or later

Supported display adapters (Windows only)

GoToMyPC uses a specific system driver to blank out monitors. In order for us to properly blank your screen(s), the driver will need to be able to read your computer's display configuration. There are unsupported display adapters that may successfully blank out your host screen but may not behave as expected with supported adapters. These include docking stations, KVM switches, USB display adapter, and connectors.

GoToMyPC supports the following display adapters:

  • DVI
  • VGA
  • HDMI

Note: There is a known compatibility issue with Intel HD Graphics cards and the display port adapter. If you are using this model, we recommend that you use a different display adapter port on your computer's video card.

Third-party driver issues (Windows only)

If you are still experiencing trouble with screen blanking, you may need to check for any installed third-party drivers. Some third-party drivers (LogMeIn Mirror Driver, Splashtop Mirror Driver, DameWare Development Mirror Driver, etc.) may prevent screen blanking capabilities, and you may need to uninstall these drivers for screen blanking to work properly. Please note that in some cases, these drivers may remove some of the necessary adapter information that GoToMyPC needs. In this case, you may need to reinstall your computer's display adapter, which can be done through the device manager (the process may vary depending on your hardware and OS). Contact customer support for additional clarification.

Enable NEW screen blanking for Windows (GoToMyPC V11 and newer)

If you are on an older GoToMyPC version contact Customer Care to have it updated. Follow the steps below to enable the new Screen Blanking feature.

  1. Right-click the GoToMyPC icon in your system tray
  2. Go to Preferences
  3. Make sure you are on the Host tab
  4. Check the box next to Enable new screen blanking feature.
  5. Your next session should now use the new Screen Blanking feature.

  2. In the Security tab, check the Blank out screen while connected box.
